Hi all im currently on a gap year and applied through ucas as an individual but linked it to my college using the buzzword, i asked an old teacher if she would do a reference and she said she would. Ucas said the school had agreed to do my reference.

But it is now deadline day and ive no reference! only got back from work at 5 and tried to phone the college but went straight to an answer machine saying the college was currently closed. This means i can't pay and submit my application

What do i do? does this mean no uni for me in september?

I'd phone UCAS and ask them for advice, see if any special arrangement can be made/etc

You can fill in a late entry form apparently, but that's just ignorant on their behalf, I went through something similar.

That's prett ignorant of them.. shouldn't say they'd do it if they weren't going to. Contact them & get them to do the ringing round.. make sure you don't give up!

To tell the truth i only put my personal statement on yesterday as ive been improving it over the last few weeks, do college's only have the ability to add reference when the applicant has completed everything else?
To me the deadline is the deadline and so shouldnt make a difference if i submit it on the deadline day or 3 months before.

Quite irrisponsible though leaving it so late. It's unreasonable to think that your school would drop everything to get the ucas thing done on the day it was due in.

Yes they can only add the reference after you've submitted and paid for your ucas.

Just had a similar situation today as my old tutor wasnt in, had to speak to some arsey women who asked why id not got my reference sooner, said id sent about 10 emails since I first asked in september.

Where does it say though (on an easy to find webpage) that the application has to be complete before the reference can be added?

You have to have completed all the sections, once everything has ticks in the boxes, the submit/pay section opens and you pay. This is then forwarded to your college and then it is up to them to attach and send it in to UCAS.

All sections except reference have a red tick in them.

Has your college accepted you onto their system yet?

They had to do that before I could pay.
