Today was the first day of the trial of the Edlington brothers who tormented two younger boys for 90 minutes. It's been reported that during the eldest brothers interview (11 at the time) he was asked why they stopped tortutring the boys. What did he reply? Not that they realised what they were doing was wrong, oh no, he replied "because our arms hurt."

To show absolutely no remorse or guilt is just disgusting, I understand they've had a very dificult upbringing but surely everyone is born with some emotion. What's everyone's view on this?

There are sociopaths in the world and there always have been. You might want to come to terms with that otherwise you'll live your life in constant shock.

    My view?

Not to let the news coerce my world outlook. You have to remember that these cases are extremely rare and the number of people pathologically impaired are VERY few. I think you must be pretty weak to let the newspapers sell you the story of the 'boogyman'. There'll always be something to fear according to the media. From terrorists to psychopaths. But as long as we keep things in perspective, I think the majority of people are very loving and considerate people.

    That's my two cents.

Yeah, there is no news like bad news!

I think that is why I get so pissed off at most newspapers for exaggerating EVERYTHING! It's either a sex scandal, a killer on the loose, or Britain's Got Talent :dong:

My view? Two disturbed teenagers, brought up in a violent threatening environment where pornography, violent films and dreadfully violent idols are commonplace, committing an act which is both extremely rare and, as demonstrated by the level of shock, very disturbing, are not representative of the world's population.

The warning signs and case files from social services in the county should also prove very interesting. We should be concentrating on fixing these care problems, as it's not the only downfall in the past 365 days.

Newspapers sell news to make money. The more disturbing the story sounds, the more shock factor and the more likely people are to buy the paper. Bad news works better than good news usually, due to the sympathetic and concerning nature of humans.

I'm Lucky (cough cough) to live two small towns away from where it all took place (around 4 miles). It really isn't a nice place to live, but neither is the rest of Doncaster.
Doncaster's social services have come under fire before, but i really don't think it's the council's fault. The area is rough and no matter what the council does there is always going to be a thugish culture. True, the newspapers may exahderate things, but this is a serious case and will happen again.
Living in an area like mine has made me sure that i want to move away - get away from home by going to uni. I know that recently there has been 2 murders in our area in around two day.
It just seems to me that theres too many areas of "thug - land" that need to be kept well away off (not P.C i know).

Pretty much :indiff: It's in the nature of every business to make a profit. There's not much point in selling news that's in perspective. For example, the 2 week long epic saga that was the news earlier this year would have been nothing if the newspapers just said 'there's a few inches of snow and not all roads are gritted'. Sensation sells newspapers, but then, they're just doing what all businesses do. It's the public that shows the demand for it. It's up to us to use rational minds to put the news into perspective.

You would think all muslims run into houses and blow themselves up in this country if you believed everything the Daily Mail had to offer.
