    Okay; this is my opinion, ignoring rent (weekly).

    Food expenses: £25
    Travelling: £10
    Social activities: £25

    Total: £60/week, assuming you are in university for 24 weeks, that's £1440.
    £60/week is about right, maybe abit on the low side, for university in S.England. In my first year in Manchester, i spent about £55/week - this covered one night out, and what's been mentioned above.
    I would say aim to spend no more than £60/week. Cost's can easily be cut by buying Sainsburys basics/pre-drinking on cheap wine etc
