Why is there so much space to answer the question, I've seen a lot of GSE maths questions like these, are they hard to answer?

They just give you lots of room :p:
If people make a mistake theres enough space to write stuff out again without drawing arrows and stars and getting it all complicated.
Though you do tend to get more pages per answer as the questions get harder towards the end of the paper..

The exam boards want to give you more space incase you do something wrong and have to cross it all out.

Because Edexcel mark their Maths papers online, their system can't cope with people who use extra sheets. They therefore give you loads more space than you need so that, even with lots of crossing out and starting again, you still won't need to ask for extra paper.
