A Polish expert on migration says claims that half of all Polish immigrants to Britain have returned home are not true.

The Migration Policy Institute had estimated 1.5m mostly Polish Eastern Europeans had come to the UK since 2004 and that more than half had now left. But Prof Krystyna Iglicka, of Warsaw's Centre for International Affairs, said Poland saw no evidence of this.

"We do not see them here," she said of the reported returned immigrants.

    Well that is curious.

It's not really that curious. Have you visited the Netherlands recently? That is where the missing Polish people are. We opened our doors first, but once other countries began opening their doors they left for those because the pay is higher and they are closer to their home. One Polish guy I was talking to there lived in the UK, but moved to Holland so that he could drive home once a month, not to mention get stoned legally lol.

There is no contradiction in what the MPI said and what the 'Polish Expert' has said. Why would they go home just because their wages in the UK took a dive?

Just to butt in on a small point: one Polish person does not equal 'Poland'. Poland cannot say things: it's a country, not a person. A sensible person may interpret the prima facie nonsense thread title to imply that the Polish government had made a statement to that effect; I think it was deliberately misleading.

Where's the problem? Poland is part of the EU as is the UK, citizens of either country are allowed to live in either country.

THe title is dodgy but the premis is less so. THe labour powers that be claim so many people have left. To be fair I don't think they actually know how many people have come and gone.

The knock on effects are profound. Without knowing how many people are coming and going by area and the country on whole you can't properly plan schools, houses, hospitals etc.

So are you suggesting that just because Polish people have left the UK (which they clearly have, its as obvious that many have left as it was that
they flooded in) that they would have gone back to Poland?

If you're not, how is the premise not dodgy?

Because Labour has stated clearly on many occasions that polish people have returned home. They have not. The government has no idea where they have gone, but 'believes' they are no longer here.

Link/quote? How would they possibly know anyhow? Surely like the BNP 'home' is just euphemism for 'anywhere that isn't here'
