What degree? What university? What's your family situation? What career aims did you have?

Why do you need to know that information? Its a computing degree. I'd like to be able to do a year to get a degree using the Diploma Of Higher Education I was awarded. Is this possible?

Your options will depend on your university but I have a horrible feeling becuase you have been awarded that you cannot resit. It sounds like its final, for example I passed my final year and wasn't awarded an HE diploma.

I may be wrong though. Also if the university thinks you will never pass they probably won't want you to resit.

You might be able to transfer to the final year of a lesser university if they are desperate for your money most likely though you will probably have to resit the second year agian. To be blunt people that fail look bad on the university statistics so they are not that likely to gamble.

I've just failed my final year at uni. I can be awarded a Diploma In Higher Education. What are my options now?

Thanks,

Willy.

Can you not retake your year or finals?

I can retake one final year module. The rest I failed in so I cannot retake.

I haven't been awarded the diploma of higher education yet. What I can do is be transfered onto a generic comp' degree and do final year modules for that. Then be awarded that degree if I pass it. Just wondering if I have any other options?
what about dropping out of that uni and taking up another course at another uni through clearig, that's what my bf (who also failed his first year) is doing

Thanks for your advice PQ
In Swansea University, the rule book says "Candidates who accumulate fewer than 40 credits (Most modules are worth 20 credits each) will fail to complete the final level of study.

At the discretion of the Award Board such candidates will be recorded as having failed the degree and will normally be advised or required to withdraw from the university. The Award Board may offer the candidate an exit qualification or, alternatively, the candidate may be permitted to resit the final examinations as an external candidate the following session, provided this can be achieved within the time limit for the degree."

It would probably be advisable that you contact your department and ask if you can re-sit the year (if your university’s academic regulations allow) as an external candidate.

I can either apply to do the final year again (but my marks would be capped at 40%) or I can apply to the generic degree. I'm worried that if I went on the generic degree I would fail modules again. (I failed 3 modules last year because they were too hard). I really want a degree. Any advice?

Look into the Open University 'credit transfer' system. If you have good marks in years one and 2 you can redo year three with them...

Give up... You're clearly not very intelligent. That is my advice. :-)

You know what they say, honesty is the best policy  but seriously if you cant at least get a 2.2 degree, there are loads of decent jobs you could still get.

Since you really want your degree, I would recommend you contacting your dept asap. If they aren't very receptive, you can try your Students Union. Good luck! :yy:
