    im a bit stuck on the dot and cross diagram (just showing outer shell)
    for AlH3

    we also have to use a diagram to show the shape & bond angles to AlH3 (assume covalent)

    any help appreciated

    How many electons does Aluminium have in it's outer shell?

    So when bonded to 3 hydrogen atoms how many are left? i.e. how many lone pairs are there

    Should be straight forward then

    i think this is one of those exeptions to the octet rule. just combine each hydrogen to each of aluminium's 3 outer electrons.
    since there are no lone pairs the shape should be trigonal-planar and bond angle of 120 degrees.
