It can be a good idea to get Skype on your laptop as it is so much better to see people at home as well as talk to them. That way you can be in regular contact with home. I'd agree everyone - don't go home straight away, even if you feel homesick, as you will definitely miss out on a lot of the socialising and making friends.
The other point is to stop worrying. Most people at university are far too busy enjoying it to feel homesick. TSR has a higher percentage of people who are unhappy than the actual student population. If you've got a problem, you're more likely to post whereas if you're loving life, you're not. It can give the wrong impression sometimes.

In my first year I was rarely homesick, as was so busy and it was all so new and exciting!
Now in my 2nd year I have so much free time that I feel more homesick, just don't worry, it's perfectly natural to miss home! I have friends who try to act cool and pretend that they don't miss home, and that going home for the weekend isn't cool, but most people I know phone home regularly and pop home for the weekend every now and again. It's perfectly normal! Everyone needs a break for uni now and again as it can be quite intense living on your own and with new people 24/7.

I find that when I call home I feel more homesick as seeing them makes me miss them. Ditto when they drop me off at the beginning of term, I felt more homesick the second time round initially (first term too busy getting to know everyone), but in the first term it went on for longer. It was weird as I've NEVER been homesick before, ever. But yeah, once you get into the swing of things it's awesome, and I kind of don't want to go home for Easter yet, feel like I've got another couple of weeks in me.

I never got homesick really. I think uni is my home tbh. I prefer it here. Home home now seems slightly weird...

I've never really got homesick, just because I talk to my friends from home quite a bit on Facebook, and my parents call me at least once a week... the only annoying thing is when you hear about things that your friends have done back home, and you wish you could have been there as well... :holmes:
