Personally I find this to be quite hilarious. When you see the wide angle, you can see that the direction the President is looking in as he looks back and forth to the teleprompters is basically at the classroom's side walls. Pretty darn amusing to me that he can't even go 'off the cuff' to a classroom of kids. I wonder if he has a teleprompter at the dinner table when its just him, Michelle, and the kids.

Don't see anything wrong with treating a message to children as importantly as a message to men in suits.

no, regardless of how busy his schedule may be it shows lack of effort, he doesnt even seem like he knows the name of the school. its pathetic.

I agree it's not perfect, but there are certain conditions which may have forced him to do so.

#1. Considering his busy schedule, he may not have been able to have enough time to do the speech at all if he had to spend time remembering it.

#2. It isn't just a speech to a school. It's a widely publicised speech whereby his reputation will be devalued if he were to make a stupid mistake - sadly for him in this case that has backfired.

They're just cautious after Bush, who without a teleprompter was likely to say things of such monumental stupidity that even 6th graders would've picked up on them.
