what did you think of the lloyds grad scheme (im guessing they must have explained what will happen in the scheme etc and what it leads to etc)?

I think I approached them with a few preconceptions - but it really sounds like an attractive scheme. You get the opportunity to get into a specialist field (they have various investment banking activities going on, which many grads appear to get very much involved in), but you also get a good grounding in other areas you might not touch on in an IB grad scheme which was more specific.

It's no Goldman Sachs, of course, and I think you'd be crazy to choose Lloyds over a BB offer (if you are aiming to go into IB), but it is a great place to get a grounding of both retail and corporate banking functions and exercise plenty of autonomy.

As far as the exit opportunities are concerned, it seems pretty flexible internally, with scope to move into an IB field such as DCM, say (which was of particular interest to me), or into a more traditional area of commercial / corporate banking. You'd get experience in fledgling but fairly succesful teams which would look pretty good if you wanted to leave after the grad scheme, but realistically, again, you would be a few pegs down from anyone with equivalent experience in a more prestigious bank.

Note I can only speak for the Corporate Markets grad scheme!

I might pop an app in for this for a summer intern. If my others don't go to plan that is.

It isnt Goldmans, but you could certainly do a lot worse. Good luck with it...

I interned there last summer. Was actually better than I thought. As mentioned, they are building up their DCM desk. When I was there I think they was the bookrunner for ICAP or something.

You can also get exposure to the Sales and Trading side of things. Met a few grads who were in trading.

The bad thing about the Grad scheme is that it's compulsory to be placed onto the Credit desk....and the credit desk is pretty boring.
