Hahaha, I totally forgot about that. That scene is so weird.

I think I'm getting some sort of TSR-social-anxiety-disorder where every time I'm quoted I get all panicky thinking someone's calling me a liar and trying to get into an argument, so as the page was loading I was trying to think of excuses as to why I thought that happened in Jane Eyre. What's wrong with me?? XD Yes that scene is so bizarre, when I first read it I go sooo confused (sometimes I think I gloss over a very important sentence and get completely confused, like when Cedric died in Harry Potter.)

Thanks, I could use that, and for my thesis I could argue it is intended deception with a specific purpose (to invoke a reaction from Jane), however what could I compare this with in Wide Sargasso Sea?

Cedric died??!?!?! HOW DARE - sorry, sorry, just joking. I was going to go on for longer but realised that would be a bit harsh!

I do that too by the way - anytime I express an opinion, if someone quotes me I assume they hate me and will be mean.

That was cruel, you really worried me there! and I am glad I'm not alone in my quoting mental disease.
