Im looking for a career in investment banking.
Im probably going to take politics AS and preferably A level; is this helpful for me getting to a very good university?

    Im taking:

    Maths
    Economics
    Politics
    Philosophy

I would like to get to imperial university or even cambridge if possible, to take economics as a degree.

Im not taking physics as it is very hard and results are bad at the college i will go to, and my maths isnt good enough for further maths- but if I get an A in maths I will drop politics or philosophy for further maths.

Im unsure if good universities will consider politics as a real and impressive A level..?

and you'll ideally want an A* at gcse to do further maths, if your hoping to get an A then i dont think its a wise choice.

Politics is the best subject (Y)

Yeah, it's a good A-Level and it is taken as a serious subject (don't believe me? I've got a place to study it at Cambridge. Woohoo.)

But I'd say to do well in it at A-Level you have to be pretty interested, so I'd advise only taking it if you think you'll enjoy it.

If you want to apply for a maths based subjects at a top university, take FM, not Politics.

EDIT: With Philosophy, Politics could be good. A2 Govt&Pol on OCR is almost exactly the same as A2 Philosophy on AQA. Lots and lots of overlap
