Ear piercing the tip

I had my ears pierced when I was little, but regularly I had to take them out during PE in school hours and cos I was little, I just always forgot to put them back. Then they got blocked and I got a keloid scar just recently, which can only be removed by laser surgery.

But I want my ears pierced again, however I cant get it done on the same usual spot cos of the scar. So I was thinking of having it done on the bottom tip of my ears, but I was thinking, is that allowed? cos its quite light there and I dont want my ear to rip from heavy earings, lol.

See attachment for where I want the piercing done. The tiny blue spot.

You can get your ear pierced practically anywhere.
But some places are more practical than others. Having it low down will make it more likely to be ripped out.
Try looking on www.bmezine.com for ideas. There should be loads of pictures of lobe piercings.
Also if you do get it peirced make sure you go to a proper studio which doesn't use a gun. The needle is much better for your ear and much more accurate.

Find a specialist piercer. That link posted should have some suggestions as to where near you is good.

Mind you, I got my first lobe piercing at a piercing studio, and he used a gun. Meh, ask around, and ask for advice on the day.

The gun damages the ear. It causes more scar tissue...it's a solid blunt object being forced through your ear at speed. A needle is hollow and sharp. It doesn't push the skin out (can cause a blow out). Guns can't really be sterilised either, not to the extent that needles are. And the studs used aren't big enough for some people.
You don't need much if any training to use a gun.
It will take a lot longer to heal and as you already have had problems with scar tissue it isn't a great idea to just create more when you can aviod it.

Where do you live?
Try asking around for a good piercing studio. People in Tattoo places may know...some of them may also do piercings...look on bmezine for info about what you should look for in the place you are getting peirced.

A keloid scar is quite rare.
It could also be a hypertropic scar. Basically a scar which only grows where the wound is.
there is a picture and a better explanation here:

How strong is your salt water solution?
How often are you cleaning it with it?
Is it sea salt you are using? (To be honest I'm not sure of the importance of this but I have always been told to use sea salt)

The doctor told me thats the only way out, but even after surgery it can come back in the same place. The good thing is mines only small and you only notice its there if you feel that bit of the ear, it feels like a lump inside.
After googling I found that some people's disappeared after using tea tree oil on it, twice a day, every day for 4/5 weeks. Or camoille oil. I think I'll try that

I went to a few shops today who do ear piercing such as Claires and H Samuels, and they both use guns :frown: So I didnt get it done.

Shops won't use needles.
Don't go to a shop
A shops primary function is to get you to buy their stock...Claires want you to buy their hair stuff etc. They have ear piercing as a secondary thing.
A piercing studio will focus on piercing. They will look after you and do everything they can to ensure that your piercing is safe and clean.
They will give you excellent aftercare instructions that if you follow you should never get an infection.
They will be trained in piercing. They should have health and safety certificates.
Where I go is 'cleaner than the dentist' according to my mum (who hates piercings)

BlueAngel what area of the country do you live in? I know of good places in the south west and can find a good place in London easily.
Also don't put price first. I know it can be tempting to just pick the cheapest place but ultimatly you are paying someone to stab you. Make sure you get stabbed safely.

I dont know if there's any near me, I'm from North West England. I guess I might find some in the directory. Actually I have seen a tattoo place in my home town, but its in a really rundown place, and its notl ike a proper shop, more of a above the flat thing, and the guy that runs it scares me, lol.

Check BME! But it is worth travelling if that's the only way you can get to a good piercer

True, thanks for your help again Juno.
i had mine done 5 years ago (my only piercing) and the idiot woman did them too low so i can't wear heavy/really dangly earings or even large studs as they hang over the edge and look silly. as my lobes are tiny like me if i let these close up and get new ones higher up there's a chance they'll 'sink' - technical term eh? and just rip into slits..really attractive...

i'm cleaning it with sea salt, probably about a teaspoons in a mug of water. i've done it twice today because after reading this thread i felt guilty for not having cleaned it in a while! normally once a day if i remember, i've been a bit lax >_< it's definitely a keloid because i went to the doctor a month or so ago when it was a bit infected and she gave me some antibiotics which were fab. the keloids are both still there though. i've tried using neat tea tree oil on them, probably a horrifically bad idea because it's so strong and i think it just irritated them more... i checked out BME before i actually got the piercing and it made me want my tragus done even more! some of the people on there said that their keloids went away after a while so i'm hoping mine might... really can't afford laser :frown: i'd like to get my helix or something done as well but i don't want to deal with the keloids again!
