The occupational therapists ive spent some time with basically help to assess rehabilitation either after illness or perhaps an accident or maybe they have a learning disability or something.
So they see whether someone is able to look after themselves in their own home and if they cant they implement the care and provide equipment. They basically want to help people to be as indepedent as possible! So can the person look after themselves, feed themselves, get to the toilet on their own, remember to take their meds etc..
They monitor care in the community. If the patient is in hospital and needs rehab, they normally visit the persons home to see how they might cope living there once out of hospital. Sorry i can't help more..there must someone training to be an ot on tsr who can help :p:

OTs have many many different roles depending on which area they work in, e.g. mental health or general hospital, adult or elderly... that link that Subcutaneous posted is your best bet. It amazes me when people don't google things before asking. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupational_therapist
