Most of the website's information isn't all that helpful, and contradicts an email from Swansea. I've accepted Swansea as my firm choice for Physics, but I can't find a definitive date for when the accommodation applications open.

    Could anyone help me out?

I don't know the answer to this but generally it is not until April or May and the accommodation is confirmed much later. If you are studying Physics you would probably be best advised to look at halls on Singleton or the Student Village. If you are looking at going private there are a number of letting agencies Student Digz, My Pad, 1 Stop Letting Shop and Students4Swansea.
There is also a private hall St Davids very near the centre of the City close to shops and nightlife.

Thanks very much. I suppose I'll check the website again, and then wait for an email.

Hi Guys,I have accepted Swansea as my insurance uni to do Chemical Engineering in September, but I can't decide whether to apply for Halls on Bay Campus or Singleton. Bay would be crazy convenient cause it is right next to all my lectures etc. but it feels very segregated and cut off from the much more integrated Singleton. What are people's thoughts? I want to be able to join in with loads of union stuff and hit the bars on campus, and all Bay has were those two cafeterias? And the bar in the grand hall which isn't even opened yet. Any replies would be amazing! Thanks!

If your an Engineering student you will be better off on the bay campus. If you stay at Singleton you will have a 5 mile bus journey each way every day. See the university website the Great Hall has been unveiled today so will be fully working in September

Cheers for the reply! I was aware it would be a bus journey every day, but I am used to travelling 40 mins every day to college so didn't think it was a big deal. Do you feel like more events happen at Singleton or does everyone just sort of group together wherever? Obviously ending in town though.

It is difficult to answer this as it is new but I would think people will end up socialising with people in their halls and campus and in their subjects. Singleton has better sports facilities and a pub, nightclub and Bar. The village has its own bar. The bay will likely have its own bar when you get there. The plans are for groups to play at the Great Hall so if you are interested in that you will be better off on the Bay. Students from Singleton or the village will need to get to the Bay for concerts and students from the Bay will need to go to Singleton for things like football and Swimming and for theatre. Currently some students are staying at the village and travelling to the Bay which is about the time you currently spend. Other than sports I don't really see integration. Students from both campuses will head to Wind Street for student nights and will end up in the same pubs/clubs. The buses are currently running until 3am approx. to both campuses on Weds, Thurs, Fri and Sat nights. There is also a private hall St Davids near the centre of Town where people off different campuses will mix as well as UWTSD students

Oh OK that sounds great actually! I am really into gigs and music so that could be perfect for me! Obviously the convenience of being right next to all of Chemical Engineering is great, but I didn't want to feel 'stuck' next to all my academic stuff. Thanks for the replies it's means a lot

It wont just be chemical engineering students there. It will be all classes of engineering students, economics, business studies, accountancy as well as probably sports science. There are plans afoot to move some science courses there including computer studies and possibly Maths and Physics but this will probably be after you finish. They have also announced more rooms will be built there to open Sept 2017 and my understanding is any future buildings will be at the Bay due to the difficulty in getting permission to expand at Singleton due to conservation issues. Even if everyone was on the same campus friendship groups tend to revolve around housemates and students doing the same course plus people you meet during social events, sports or night outs. No one is ever going to get to know nearly 20,000 students

Very good points, I suppose it doesn't matter too much where I end up really. I need to decide at some point though xD Cheers

Hi MattyB, thanks for getting in touch. If you visit the accommodation pages on our website, there's a lot of information to help you apply for accommodation for this September - http://www.swansea.ac.uk/accommodati...accommodation/
Applications are now open for Unconditional, Conditional and Insurance students. You will need to apply by 30th June to guarantee accommodation (unconditional and conditional students only).
I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to advise me as to what would be the best accommodation for a zoology student? I am not from the UK and therefore wasn't able to come and see the accommodation and campuses myself which I definitely am regretting now!

I'd really appreciate any advice so thanks in advance!

Any of the Halls on Singleton campus will be less than 5 minutes walk away. Alternatively you could stay at the Student Village which is about 1 and 1/2 miles away about 30 minutes walk or a 15 minute bus ride.

Hi I'm currently a first year in marine biology so with zoology student atm and live on student village, bus can be annoying in mornings and in between lectures if there is more than a few hours break but good for social life!!

Hey guys,I am going to be studying biochemistry from September and I'm having a difficult time deciding whether to stay at the Bay campus or outside the uni. I am not considering Singleton as I don't like the ensuite rooms. Any advice? Also I would like to know how strict they are about having guests in the campus. I found the following in the St. Modwen Student Living Regulations 2015:

5.9 Visitors: occasional short stay visitors are allowed (visitor must be over 18 years of age) up to amaximum of two nights in any visit and a maximum of three visits per term. You are responsible forthe behaviour of your visitors. ( http://www.swansea.ac.uk/accommodati...ionsbrochures/ )

Please let me know how much the above is enforced or tell me about any experience you've had with the matter =)

The 2 campuses are 5 miles apart. The road between them is arguable the busiest in Swansea. You would be going to and from the campuses in the same direction as the majority of the travel and it might take 30 minutes. If you are happy with this then stay the bay. if not look at other options

This one is difficult to answer. Sport courses are based at the bay but the swimming pool athletics track and sports field are near Singleton campus.
