yes it should be banned, lets get rid of some mosques while we're at it.

Why? Nobody is forced to enter a mosque. How do mosques affect those who don't enter them?

How do you get rid of mosques? I assume you mean convert them to something else? If so, what do you have in mind? Casinos? Brothels? Nunneries?

Also, surely people can just say, convert a wing of their house into a mosque (or a second home into a mosque) and it is not the business of other individuals to dispute their private decision?

What do you reckon?

If a misogynistic society requires that women wear a veil and punish them if they don't, common logic tells us that they're using it for misogynistic purposes. It's just another law to keep them subjugated if they'll be abused for showing their faces. It doesn't matter if the concept of a veil is misogynistic, it has become just that through its function.

They do objectify women. But nobody forces women to wear slutty clothes.

Funny, I always thought freedom of thought added something to British society.
Of course many societies are guilty of employing the veil as a means of subjugation. However, banning the veil won't magic away the woes of of many Muslim women. It won't even bring tangible results.

The fact that women in societies where they have the choice such as in Britain choose to wear the veil despite in the vast majority of cases their mothers and grandmother never wore it has less to do with misogyny, and a great deal more to do with identity and making a public statement about following a particular strand of Islam.

I did read it prior to commenting. I'm good like.

You realise that Abd Al-Wahab isn't God, don't you? I mean really that is such a pathetic argument.

Wahabi believe everyone is an enemy of Islam. Nothing new there.

do you know what Abd Al-Wahab means - it means the slave of Al-Wahab . End Quote

im a muslim and i think its unnecessary to wear a face veil.however, i do believe that banning the face veil is like taking away a persons free will; the UK is known as a multi cultural society but it can only be that way if people are allowed to express thier cultures in a way they want (free will).

Abd Al-Wahab isnt God, he is the slave of God, duhhh, but by using the word Wahabi you are using one of Allah's names in a derogotary manner
Oh I see. So let me get this straight, if someone I vehemently disagree with has a name derived from one of the 99 names. I can't possibly be critical of them because someone like you may get confused about whether I was being critical of God.

Which would be useful if we were discussing semantics. Thankfully we're not. Your on the wrong forum bud.

Pssst.. the bits in brackets aren't written in the Qur'an!:facepalm2: :banghead:
They are some self-indulgent Islamic scholars interpretation of what certain words mean to THEM, based on their interpretations of various Hadiths written well after the Qur'an, the most relevent one (I think?!) in this case, being Sunan al-Tirmidhi.

Sooooooo.........the Qur'an verse you've pointed to as "proof" of the Qur'an saying women HAVE to cover their faces, when you take away the added features scribbled in by the "scholars" is:

I see no mention explicit mention of the face there, only of modesty and covering the bosom, as I said.

This is the problem with Islam. There's so much squabbling over interpretations of texts and in-fighting amongst Islam itself, before you even start considering how to treat the Jews and other kuffars.

Sort it out guys!!! How are we meant to respect Islam and take you seriously when you're not even sure what "good muslims" are supposed to be doing. :toofunny:

Cant you see the endless proof and supporting/external evidence with evidence from the Quran, if that is not enough for you, then what is

there is a very strict criteria for colecting hadith

If I see a woman in a veil, I see a woman opressed and brainwashed. It has NO place in modern, educated, culture.

That saidm it doesnt borhter me much, its useful to know who the fools of society are just by looking. Same reason I dont mind what Chavs wear

Clearly you don't have much to do now-a-days, registering multiple accounts to vent your frustrations on a student forum.

Hmm, I'm sure you can.

Strange how 'EthnicScot's' post disappeared eh?

There is no multinational company called 'Slumberger'.
Reply 249
No because every 1 has a right to choose what ever they wear
zaf1991
No... Should allowed if the woman wants to wear it. End of.

But do you agree with western women being forced to wear headscarfs and long loose clothing etc. in some islamic states/countries?

Certain sects and their respective scholars have different approaches to this issue. Some seek to emulate the example of the Prophet's wives as they're seen as the best of women and they respectively wore the burqa. Hence those women seek the pleasure of God by moving further to their iman and rejecting worldly lures wear it. The four madhabs are unanimous in their approval of the veil and its supported by several authentic hadiths.

Its practically racist if not facist.
Irregardless its really rude and practically reminiscent of some sort of hitler society.

Name me two entirely separate cultures in Britain today? I can't think of many.

A culture is the sum total of one's behaviours over time. Each person's is therefore very likely to be unique.

Some people like rock music. Some people prefer trance.

Whether people want to be emos, greebos, goths or chavs isn't really a problem for me. I have no issue tolerating these cultures. Do you think this multiculturalism is threatening?

If so, why? Are you prevented from practising your 'culture'?

If so, how?

I dont respect islam and I dont respect muslims.

If they wnt to dress up like clowns they can go back to the desert where they came from. I dont wnt to walk down the street and have my sight assaulted by some niqab adorned creep walking in my street.

I dont want to look at that and I dont see why I should have to.

I know there's got to be a limit on what aspects of Islam can be imposed on the UK in order to accomodate our large Muslim population (as there should be with any religion), but honestly this is such a minor issue. You need to relax.. let people live their lives how they want to.

I am not defining Britains indugenous culture, I am asked to do this all the time by proponants of multiculturalism. It is far more complex than the simpleton example you gave.

I dont care whether your culture interferes with mine or not. Or prevents me from practicing it. I dont want to live in a country that resembles anything like islamic culture, pakistani culture, african culture.

I dont want to live in a multi ethnic hellhole. I want to live with my own people in my own ancestral homeland. And this is no different to what indians want or the chinese want.

the difference is that I m white and becuse of this it makes me rcist that I dont want to share my own country, with the rest of the third world.

No. I don't agree with this. Then again, I'm an atheist.

Surely the 'clothing regulations' are applicable to all women and not just Western Europeans/Americans.

If bars and clubs can stop you from entering because you are not dressed appropriately then shops and privately owned places should be able to stop someone in a burka from entering as it could be a risk to security.
