I always wonder what questions to ask after an interview. There are some generic ones like "what is the next stage in the process" or "could you talk a bit about your role in the organisation". But what questions could really impress an interviewer? All suggestions, original or not, are welcome!

Ask questions to find out relevant information that you were unable to obtain through your own research

If the interview is with the business, I prefer market questions like equities vs fixed income in '10 or recent hot topics like impact of new regulations.

If it is with HR, I think there are no very impressive questions to ask

I just ask a couple of cheesy ones.

'What sort of things do you do on your typical day?'
'Why did you pick bank x?'
'Can you recommend sources to find out more information about the role?'

    Stuff like that.

Seriously there are no questions that are gonna blow their minds, they will have heard them all before, unless you go crazy deep and philosophical... though I don't see that flying in an IB interview lol.

Just show that you are genuinely interested in the bank and the department, that's the most important thing in interviews! Ask questions that enable you to actually learn something - whether that be about the interviewer and their motivations for working where they do or asking about the social side of the bank in question depends what is relevant to YOU and your application.

I like to ask them when do they expect to retire... everyone hopes for 35, unless they are older than 35.
