    Having a woman in there doesn't seem to be very good propaganda material for the time, though.

    Personally I don't think the French made it up (they would have just taken a man and said God was speaking to him instead), it's what was going on in Joan's mind that puzzles me.

    Good point, although I think we can be fairly certain that God didn't say anything to Joan of Arc.
    I guess they were all just mad and/or gullible and or desperate...

    Well you can't be certain, the best you can do is speculate (just like you can only speculate the existence of God, it can't be proven or disproven).
