I'm thinking of doing this next year as I have a friend who's a student in london already, but we would need more house-mates and I would want to meet people in my situation/ who wont ditch me after the two years.

Living outside of halls puts a lot of pressure to find friends on your course that you may want to live with. Personally, after one year I didn't know enough people well enough on my course to be able to live with them but it differs from person to person.

Living in halls is a great experience and I think you'll feel as if you're missing out if you don't do it for your first year. Generally speaking, the closest relationships are formed in halls and you might feel a bit left out if you weren't involved.

You can always live with your friend in your second year if you don't want to live with people from your uni accomodation.
