Can't afford uni accomodation deposit...

Okay, so basically people are allowed to apply for uni accomodation for Leeds Met from the 1st of february, and they are asking for deposit of £200 up to 10 days after the date of application. The problem is, i do not have anywhere near that amount of money, i actually have rudiculous bills of over £400 this month already, and i only earn about £200 a month :frown:
I have £100 quid left to pay for my college transport next week, if i dont i will not be allowed on the college bus and theres no other way i can get there as it is quite far away from where i live :frown:
Mum will not give me any money as shes in a difficult financial situation herself, and i wont have saved this much money untill about the end of march if later! I really don't know what to do? i don't want to end up having no accomodation whatsoever and , from what i heard I need to apply ASAP, which would be Feb the 1st because people book it quite quick and there will be basically nothing left if i was to apply in about April? can anyone confirm this or is that pure BS? sorry for writing a mini essay, im just really worried and it just makes me wanna cry to be fair :frown:

Get in contact with the uni and explain your situation. Even if they can't help you out financially or let you postpone the deposit, they'll be able to put your mind at rest as to how long you realistically have to apply before accommodation's likely to be full.

Most unis guarantee halls for first years if you apply by a certain date, so you probably have nothing to worry about

Really don't worry about it. I'm in leeds met accomodation. I didn't sort my accomodation out for it until 3 days before i moved in, this included my deposit. I did it in september so you have bags of time. Which area you looking at?

I was thinking opal but then it is really expensive and im not sure i can afford it

So im thinking something like 1 mill street now as i need to budget....

If i applied later, not as late as sept tho, do u think there will still be some ensuite rooms up for grabs or do they go pretty quick? with a lot of people wanting ensuite etc....

Which halls are u in? I cant believe how expensive uni accomodation is, it seems as if my loan etc will only cover accom and i will have nothing left

Yeah I think that the ensuite ones go first. I'm staying at Carlton hill which when i was applying it was by far the cheapest at £78 or £79 for a bigger a room. I have the bigger one at £79 a week and its really worth it, the rooms are huge and even have double beds. It's not ensuite though but there are 2 bathrooms, the flat has 3 floors so you aren't all stuck on a corridor. It's accross the road to leedsmet, in the city centre.

You must call them and explain the situation about the deposit. They will be able to tell you if they can defer payment until your student finance comes through or ou have enough saved, whichever is first.

I know that uni`s do this, so make sure you ask them. I know someone this happened to, and they kept worrying that they were not going to get in, and they couldnt book it because they didnt have the deposit, so they called their uni, and the guy in the office immediately put their mind at rest and deferred the deposit until after they moved in.

It is true that freshers are guaranteed a room, but only if they apply before a certain date, so dont wait any longer, explain your situation and tell them that you have been told that uni`s do this service.
also, how come you do not get help with your travel to college, you should have been offered support from the learners support fund if your family income is that low.

I just rang up the leeds met accomodation office and i explained that i do not have £200 pounds at the moment and i wont have it for quite a while and the lady just asked when i would be able to pay, so i said end of march the earliest, so she just took my name and ucas number and she said its okay to apply, shell put a note on my application and i dont have to pay till the end of march now!
She was really really nice, and she asked how come i cant pay so i said that i have loads of bills and whatnot to pay plus i dont earn that much and i dont recieve any parental support, she said shell speak to someone to see if any financial help would be available for me, as i might be eligigble! i didnt know that!
I think you should do the same, or just accept your boyfriends offer!

Only allowed one choice? omg! its so hard to choose! its so expensive aswell! As i will be studying at the civic quarter, im looking at Opal, Mill Street maybe... im soo not sure! its all nearly £5000 pounds, the maitenance loan doesnt cover it all :frown: what am i gonna live off! lol

loool you should have asked how much is the first installrment....... For opal..... And i think ill book opal court..... And i think ill be accepting my BF offer for now....
I'm going to London. You think £5,000 is expensive?... Well my accommodation is nearly £15,000 and I only get £7,000 maintenance plus NO parental support!
£5000 was expensive back in February 2010.

either that's a lie or you're an idiot, you clearly can't afford the accommodation and there is definitely cheaper places to live in London
