    ok I give up. I am not interested in winning some tacky game, I just need to know the logic behind the puzzle because it's bugging me now :mad: :o:

    The answer's \pi - 27i because then the numbers form a list of the roots of the 20-degree polynomial:
    f(x) = (x-6)(x-2)(x-5)(x-3)(x-2)(x-4)(x-3)(x-7)(x-1)(x-2)(x-4)(x-5)x(x-6)(x-1)(x-7)(x-4)(x-9)(x-8)(x - pi + 27i)

    I agree. I also agree with the answer 5 (the bottom row is {first row + third row} and also {second row + fourth row}).

    But yeh, I dislike these types of games.

    argh I looked for things like that but was obv. blind. I do also dislike such things as they are not proper patterns, but thanks
