I might as well post this anywhere on the career forum but since I'm aiming for a career in accountancy, I'll post it here.
I was wondering about how the background check work as far as one's criminal record is concerned.

Can your employee request a copy of your criminal record from the authorities or are you required to get a copy yourself and hand in it to them?

I'm not from Britain, how would they check up on my previous convictions?
Of course I will provide them with a copy of my criminal record where I'm from but if they really feel like checking me up, how would this actually be carried out?
The only way I guess is to call every local court in my country, would they really do this? Sounds like an awful lot of work for them.

(I don't have a criminal record my self I was just wondering)

    Thank you

In the UK you have something called a Criminal records Bureau check - they might check this

For foreign countries they might ask their local office in that country to check if their is something similar

You are not required to get copies and hand them in yourself

It shouldn't be a problem if you don't have a criminal record - don't worry about it

In my case the background checks are sub-contracted to another company which specialises in it. If you have a criminal record in another country they will probably still be able to find out.
