this isn't yet another thread asking for advice as to how to go about it because i know that already. however, i'd really like to hear some experiences of people who've successfully transferred to a different university for their second year.

i'm currently in my first year of a psychology degree at sussex, and whilst i enjoy my course, i'm becoming more and more unhappy with the university. it's not terrible, but i just find the whole campus thing really suffocating and it's not at all how i expected it to be. socially, it's alright but not particularly brilliant and i haven't really found many people that i actually click with. originally, i wanted to be in london (UCL rejected me, goldsmiths were my insurance) but i ended up choosing sussex for various (silly) reasons.

i've been considering a transfer to goldsmiths, who state on their website that they accept transfers in most departments. i have good enough grades (AAA), the course is basically the same and i've done very well in my course so far, so i can't see it being an issue. i know that goldsmiths isn't as highly ranked as sussex for psychology, but it's still UOL and i'd much rather be happy than stay somewhere purely for prestige. however, i'm slightly worried about the social side (making friends as everyone will know each other already) and also accommodation because of this.

does anyone have any advice or experience? also, would i be silly to transfer to a 'lower ranked' uni?
