Hi everyone!
I'm Alex. I live in Novosibirsk, Russia. Does anybody hear something about my city? :-) I'd be glad to make new friends here. I'm learning the language and will be glad if someone shows me where is the best place for that or agrees to help me by private messaging.
So, I'm a 3rd year student, my major is Applied informatics in economics (does anybody have the same?). I like taking pictures, cycling and city exploring. I believe that every town has its own sights, just notice it. I wonder when people say that some cities have nothings to see, that they're very boring and grey, these people dream about famous cities... I have a lot of hobbies, but let's end my introduction on this. I hope I'll like being here.
P.S. Is it usual that people from so far countries like me sing up for The Student Room?

:hello: Welcome to TSR, Alex!

We have quite a number of non-UK students here, and I'd suggest that you take a look at the International Lounge to find others from Russia and other countries. Happy posting!

Could someone explain me what the rules of linking to other sites are? I've posted a message with a link and then found that it contains some inappropriate content and awaits to be approved. What's wrong?

Linking to most other sites is fine, provided they're acceptable within the site rules:
No advertising or inappropriate links

Linking to other sites is fine as long as it is within the context of a discussion; posting a link directly to a resource that answers a question is allowed. Overt promotion is not acceptable and will be removed.

  • Do not link to other sites or products for advertising purposes.
  • Do not post links containing referral or affiliate Ids
  • Do not promote pyramid schemes or other Internet scams
  • Do not link to torrent sites, pirate sites, hacker lounges or sites that host illegally copyrighted material or provide an index of links for places that do. Do not ask for links to illegal downloads.
  • Do not link to sites that contain any form of pornography, swearing or items otherwise unsuitable for the underage users of the site.
Advertising and inappropriate linking will be deleted. Persistent offenders will be banned. If you sign up and immediately begin advertising, you will be banned permanently and immediately. These rules extend to any material you post on the site, your signature, your avatar, private messages and your profile details.
However, as you're a new member any posts that you make including a link will be placed into the moceration queue for approval before they appear on the site. This doesn't necessarily mean that your post won't be approved, though, and the queue will only affect you while you have a low post count.

Thanks for reply! But where this info is stated? And how many posts should I have? I spent about 20 minutes and found only 'No advertising or inappropriate links' rule. This system is very interesting for me, 'cause I face it for the first time. There is a lot of newbies, it must be very hard to control all of them, mustn't it?

Admittedly it's not as clear as it might be, but there's a link to the site rules at the bottom of every page.

I've read it again and found nothing about what I asked in previous post.
