this has been going on for a while, but whenever i'm around other people that arent family or VERY good friends, i just generally feel uncomfortable - not in the sense that i'm dead nervous or anything, i just have trouble truly being myself... i act differently when i'm around my family, im more energetic, more carefree and more ME. Yet when im around others im more calm and reserved i guess, and i hate not feeling like myself... its like i kepe my real self at bay.

the thing is, people say you get better at socialising with practice, but i went to school and had good friends, worked in a job for a year, and now at university where im constantly around people. The only times i've felt bullied or rejected (which may cause this type of shyness?) were during Alevels when i was practically a loner the whole time - i also saw a private counciller over this time (due to other issues, but i brought this up to discuss with her) and she just seemed to see it as a self-esteem/confidence issue. I'm not sure i'd even call it shyness... i mean, im fairly confident when dealing with people in non-social circumstances, like job interviews or something like that, i just have no confidence when im around friends.

its getting to the point where im obsessing over it, as you can probably tell, what can i do to change this? is there any sort of over the counter medicine that'll relax my head more? people tell me im a dead relaxed person, but on the inside i feel like im going nuts. :woo:

Start smoking pot mate, it will make you more paranoid in the long run... but at least you'll have someone to talk to when your more baked than a loaf of warburtons. Weed is your friend.

so how do i go about developing confidence? i thought that would have come by now considering the amount of time i spend socialising... alas, no, still no confidence.

Practice talking to people you dont usually talk to, we all have mutual friendships so go talk to friends you dont necessarily know too well
