It is rather amusing that everyone always slated him as some sort of evil mizer. How many other billionaires are giving 20% of their fortune away to charity with further grants of money to come later on?

I have to agree. His products might not be amazing - although I admit to using them - but you can't slate the guy himself. A modern day Rockerfeller.

:yep: Good on him, it's a shame other people don't follow his example.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that the world is already overpopulated so this shouldn't be done.
Or he should spend another $10Bn giving out free condoms in the third world - and free forced vasectomies to the men who have half a dozen children.

75% of his wealth is sent to charities isn't it?

That is pretty awesome. Bill Gates has always been so charitable, over 90% of his wealth is being donated and he managed to get Warren Buffet to donate $50bilion to his foundation aswell.

If it does indeed save 8.7m lives, then that is pretty amazing...to have saved so many lives must feel great.

To be honest though, when you have 1 billion pounds, giving away 75% means you would still have 250 million which would still make you incredibly incredilby rich...

I think 10b could be better spent creating jobs in the third world that would allow those people to save their own lives rather than possibly become dependent on charity.

That's £1149 per life. Pretty good value.

It's 85% of his wealth, which at the time (2006) was valued at $37billion but now it's in the 45-50billion range.

Warren buffet. He donated $37B to the bill gates foundation. That's more than bill gates 20%.

I know he doesn't have 1 billion, it was an example in general of "rich people" and how even if they give away a large percentage of money they are still "mega-rich"
