Well my girlfriend is Chinese (I'm not) and it's the Chinese New Year on the same day which means her family are having some sort of big celebration at their house and she is basically forced to stay. She has pretty strict parents and she asked to even see me for like an hour or something and they pretty much said there was no chance of that.
So, yes, I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what we could do instead? I've asked her if we should just celebrate it the day before as it's not that big a deal but she's said even then she might not be because her family might be getting ready and everything and quite a few people are coming over (from outside London) and the will be staying over for a day or two so the days after that I might not be able to see her either. I know it's just a day that can be celebrated whenever but I did want it to be special and everything because it would be our first one and we've been going out for 9 months now.

just do something another day? Nothing special about the 14th of February.

Valentines day is far too commercialised. Just have a nice meal later in the week - will be less busy, too.

Do it another day, people even celebrate their anniversaries on other days so a day as insignificant as valentines day doesn't necessarily have to celebrated on the 14th. Mind you, a day as insignificant as valentines day shouldn't be celebrated at all but each to their own!

just do it the next week. That way it will be less busy as well and just make sure you do something nice. Valentines is pretty much a con, just a nice excuse to do something fun and special with the other half- and you can do that the following week.
