Okay let me give you some background.

Each term we have to fill out an inventory list.

My friend decided to write some general nonsense on my friends list - nothing offensive in the slightest. Just general comments like the bedding was moist and there had been docile bees in his fridge.

These was then crossed out by the person, BEFORE he handed the form in.

Now he's being fined because the secretary found these remarks offensive.

Where does he stand on this issue? Surely crossing out words even if still legible is a reasonable attempt to make sure the material is not intentionally offensive? Does it also not seem a bit unreasonable, if not petty, to fine him for such a trivial matter?

Any opinions? Any suggestions he can put forward in his defence?

It's extremely petty... although I've heard docile bees are a huge issue in university accomodation and must be taken seriously in all cases.

It seems the woman was being sensitive. Just for that I suggest you actually put bees in the fridge and then counter claim saying you are not being taken seriously .

Even if they weren't crossed out that's a pathetic thing to get all offended about. They aren't even rude comments, he should fight back And I like the idea someone above me said about actually putting bees in the fridge.

    It's a 30 pound fine I think.

What can he say in his defence? Is there anything legally speaking?

refuse to pay it; Take it to the highest level if needed but don't pay. The uni shouldn't be able to hold you to ransom over something so pathetic!
