Throughout my life, I've been chopping and changing desired career paths like anyone else - I wanted to be a doctor, an inventor (lol), a vet to journalist, writer, copywriter, and so on...

Until this time last year, when I wanted to have a career in the performing arts! I've been editing a creative writing magazine for charity, and have now run an open mic for performance poetry and have edited playscripts. Done this for almost 2 years now, with 3 issues down, so very happy I'm volunteering in a theatre, and am script reading for a new theatre company.

Just wondering if there was any advice, as it's so hard to find a paid gig around. I would like to help in arts administration, script development, stage management and would to do some acting on the side. I'm hoping to perform my own poetry in the future too Paid work, maybe a start in front of house (which I have some experience in) or box office (although I barely have any retail exp, been in secretarial/admin all my life). Any advice?

Apply at the theatres in the West End for front of house placements! Even if they only gave you a seasonal slot it would look very impressive to future employers. Especially as it's a lot about who you know rather than what you know.

Are there any colleges near you offering courses? Theatre Studies A Level might be a good start.

Well, I've just finished my degree in English and Creative Writing, so yeah, I've been looking round at theatre courses. I was thinking about going to a drama school, but they're so expensive! The MA in text and performance looks good, as literary management and dramaturgy are my main interests... does anyone know if that would be a good route?
Did you get less than your required grades and still get into university?
