How would I draw a dot and cross of an OH- ion? Is a dative covalent bond formed? Or is there just one unpaired electron in the O atom?

    Help would be appreciated

There aren't any dative bonds or unpaired electrons http://wiki.chemeddl.org/images/5/56..._page_28-2.jpg imagine one of the dots by the H is a cross.

But that implies that the Oxygen has 7 electrons in it's outer shell..? I thought it only ever has 6

But OH- has a negative charge so it has an extra electron.

With hydrogens electron it completes it's octet and so therefore is stable/happy.
