Bradford Uni, Leeds Met, Leeds Uni, Huddersfield, Leeds Trinity, Sheffield Hallam, Sheffield Uni, LJMU and York St John. Oh yes, we are a high-flying school.

No one applied to Oxbridge this year and I think our school last sent someone there about 6 years ago. Thing is - my school isn't even particularly bad. It's one of the better ones in my city, which isn't really much of an achievement; in a national context it would probably be in the bottom 40%. I find it really worrying that some schools are sending half their cohort to Oxford or Cambridge every year... There's something not right about that.

For some reason a hell a of a lot of people go to Leeds - both the uni and the met. We don't live anywhere near the place or anything ... I'd say at least 30% of my year went there.

    Seriously :sigh:

It's a good school, but it does end up feeling a bit like an exam/Oxbridge factory. Nice that I'll be surrounded by people I know in Cambridge (if) though :p:
Is it Westminster by any chance?

There's 2,000 people in my college. So as you can imagine, I'm not really sure where everyone's applying. I did hear that last year, about 5/6 people were accepted to Oxbridge, which isn't that good when you consider it in proportion. I get the impression that quite a few go to places like UEA, Nottingham and Sussex, with the odd mathmo going to LSE/UCL.

If you think UWE is bad, most of mine applied to Northampton and Bedfordshire! Closeness and all but also my schools just average.

I think Southampton is the most popular uni at my school. Not sure why.

Uni of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam.

Most people wanted to stay in Sheffield. I don't know of anyone who went any further than Leeds.

Majority of people from my Sixth form ended up at a UoL college or at least a London university. Loads of QMUL and then KCL, a few UCL, I think one LSE, and 2 for SOAS I know of. After that it was like City University, Westminster etc..

Some people left London obvs, but a lot didn't.

Edit: Oh and there's around 5/6/7 people who went Oxbridge. I went to a fairly good sixth form.

Just a random wondering, does everyone's school seem to have 'favourite' unis that people want to go to?
Why do you think this is or isn't?

At my school a lot of people this year want to go to Lincoln or Northumbria, mainly because of their locations and the grades they require.

Anyone else noticed any trends at their school?
At my 6th form (in Manchester) it seems like most people are applying to Oxford and Cambridge.
Some to Edinburgh because it's quite highly ranked for medicine.
And a very small proportion to Lancaster, just because we had a trip there and they can't be bothered researching elsewhere.

I've got no idea where I'm going or even what course I'm doing yet, so...

At mine pretty much everybody has chosen Royal Holloway as their safe choice.
For first choices many have chosen Imperial, UCL and KCL...presumably due to the desire to stay in London.
wow I wish I went your school now, no one has even heard of it at my school

Neither one of those three :ninja:

    Less grandeur, more pressure.
:hmmm: Somewhere's been working on its Oxbridge acceptance rates.

my point is less people apply to oxbridge than anywhere else! so when someone comes out with it being a 'common' choice its pretty bizzar.
Yes, you're right; it is a bit odd. But at top schools, a lot of people will be good enough to apply and get in, and if you get in to Oxford or Cambridge you're very likely to go there, which isn't the case with other universities. You probably don't need an awful lot of people going to Oxford and Cambridge to make them a school's most popular choices, as long as there isn't one other obvious place for lots of people to choose. If the school has a history of sending people predominantly to one of Oxford and Cambridge, it's even more likely.
