Just a random wondering, does everyone's school seem to have 'favourite' unis that people want to go to?
Why do you think this is or isn't?

At my school a lot of people this year want to go to Lincoln or Northumbria, mainly because of their locations and the grades they require.

Anyone else noticed any trends at their school?
Mostly some sort of PE course.. some **** unis, some medium ones, like 1-2 York and 1-2 Cambridge..

I would assume this would be pretty "bad" in terms of schools success at students attending prestigious universities?

At my school what kind of happened with people who were applying was that some of them bothered to research where they wanted to go and then a lot of the others just copied off them, come to think of it!

Edit: Same about the PE course :p:

Most people in our sixth form seem to apply to Northumbria, mainly because its so close. I don't know why, I want to get away!
All the Leeds unis too seem popular.

A lot applied to Keele/Staffordshire because it's close. Manchester/Manchester Met was fairly popular too because they're close but in a big city.

    Seriously :sigh:

It's a good school, but it does end up feeling a bit like an exam/Oxbridge factory. Nice that I'll be surrounded by people I know in Cambridge (if) though :p:

Not where most people on TSR tend to go to. 3 applied to oxford - not even 1 got an interview. The rest applied to places like brunel and some to the London uni's [UCL, kings etc.] but I don't know about whether they got offers or not. And many are resitting Year 12. Wahey...my school sucks ><!

    I just wondered...
I'm only mildly interested myself, I wanted to see if other peoples' schools followed the same trend.
Besides, if you don't like it, no-one's forcing you to read it. :o:

Bournemouth/Portsmouth seem to be popular choices. And Nottingham Trent too. Only me and one or two other people have applied to Nottingham/Warwick/Bristol and such places (which seem to be the most popular at a lot of schools according to this thread)

wow... Haha yes I guess that is a benefit though :p:

My school is arguably the best in my city and less than 5% of my year have oxbridge offers!

Everyone I know in London has applied to KCL/UCL/LSE/QMUL and everyone I know in Nottingham has applied to Nottingham/Nttm Trent. People seem to want to stay close to home.
