For a solid week, if not more I've had the worst cough I can ever remember having. Still after one week, I've got an unending pleghmy type cauldron of a noise coming through my coughs. I've been taking Benylin and other little things like that but to no success yet. I don't smoke and don't suffer with any medical conditions. How long can a bloody cough last?!?!

My son has been coughing since mid December, a horrible, barking cough. He's generally healthy, doesn't smoke etc - like you. He went to the doctor in December and was told it would go away on its own. It didn't, he went back to the doc and was told he now has a chest infection - he's on antibiotics but so far they haven't made much difference. If your cough doesn't start getting better in a few days time, I'd go and see your GP if I were you.

Gargle (but make sure you don't swallow!) salt-water, and if you're coughing up phlegm, try to spit it out whenever you can.
And keep at it with the Benylin, too, but try not to overdose
If it lasts it may be worth a trip to the dr. in the future.
