Applying for provisional license under 17

Hello i was just signing up for a provisional driving licence on the direct.gov.uk website and when i was entering in the are you elegible form it gave me the error:
As you are under 17 and are not receiving disability allowance, you will only receive a provisional moped licence.

Now i am under 17 (Im 16 and 9 Months) but i thought you could apply for a provisional at 16 just not drive untill 17.

Im just wondering will the provisional moped license turn into a car provisional licence or would i have to apply again?

Thank you in advanced,
FewsterA

You should be able to apply for a provisional if you are within three months of your 17th birthday. Try again tomorrow? Maybe their system disagrees about you being three months away.
You can apply for your licence up to 2 months before your licence is due to start. But you MUST NOT drive on the road until your licence has arrived and not until the day of your 17th birthday.

I believe it's the three months before your 17th birthday.
Are you sure you're within the three months, days included?

Fair enough, this by the seems of it.
It used to be three months though, right?
I'm sure it was three months when I got mine, which was only a couple of years ago. They must have changed it.
Yeah, what the others said. It's too early for you to apply right now, just wait a few more months then apply as soon as it's 2 months before your 17th b'day.
It's the same licence. It's just that the provisional car entitlement won't come into effect until your 17th Birthday.

Positive. I applied 2 months after my 16th Birthday as I was thinking of getting a moped. Categories f,k and p were valid from the date it arrived, and categories A and B (Bike and Car) as of my 17th Birthday.
I got mine 2 months ago and I'm not 17 for a couple of weeks yet :yep:

Its always been since you were 16... I got mine when I was 16 back in 2003. You need the provisional to be able to take your CBT for a moped

Did you pass a CBT test though? I found this on the direct.gov website:
If you are 16 and already have a provisional licence for an agricultural vehicle or a moped, this will give you provisional entitlement to drive a car when you are 17.

Thank you in advanced

Nope. I was going to take the CBT but I never got round to it. You need to apply for your provisional before you take your CBT.

You used to be able to apply 3 months before you were 16, now it has changed to 2 months before you are 16.

The above is definite and correct, people seem to think you have to be 17, some think its 3 months before 17 but that is incorrect, you can apply for one now if you wish, anyone can apply 2 months before they are 16.

Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valid is your 17th birthday, however you can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday.
