is a depraved heart killing not another term for second degree murder in America, or at least your charged with "second degree murder" when you carry out a "depraved heart killing/murder".

I'd assume we MIGHT class it as manslaughter here? As I think the point of a depraved heart murder is you didn't set out with the motive to kill, but your behaviour resulted in the victims death? You might have driven into him at work with a forklift truck because you were having an argument, you wanted to knock him down, but you accidentally crushed him? Is that a depraved heart killing by definition or not?
Even if it did you can bet we'd not give it such a stupid name.
