The lack of patriotism and sheer self-hatred on this site disgusts me... watch

The basic ethos of this site is that British patriotism is very negative, we should be ashamed of our behaviour, other cultures have every right to hate us and pick us up on our cultural short-comings, we have no right to critise foreigners because by default everything they do is better than us - they dress better than us, they are more intelligent than us, they are better looking than us, less sexually premocious, society has lower crime, blah blah blah.

I'm sure you don't care, but I have used this site for years, and I often have to take a break from posting because of the sheer liberal negativity and pompousness, and how quite frankly anti-British this site is, it sometimes does get really grating and depressing to read just how much of the country's youth seem to hate themselves and their culture.

I suspect 80% of you will eventually grow out of your stupid liberal, apologist, pompous views while the remaining 20% will become aging communists.

But to me, the sheer level of self-hatred towards your own identity of this website is highly depressing, and definately goes against what would be considered natural self-preservation and self-respect.

Would you not agree there is a strong element of 'self-hatred' nationally though? We (Brits etc.) often criticise 'ourselves.' I think it's a bit strong to jump up and shout that the site is the way you've described. A couple of threads each day showing these views with a few minority of users expressing the views you've described, especially compared to the number of users the site has.

Don't forget, people will deliberatly be annoying on here and, as shown by this thread, will wind others up with their 'lack of patriotism.' I feel that you've looked at a few of the threads around, in which few users posts and concluded that the whole site is therefore anti-British etc.

I am proud to be British. I miss all our silly little traditions when I go to another country. But for all our charming idiosyncrasies,we have a lot of faults. It's in our nature to be self-depricating a lot of the time.

You don't HAVE to read this forum, you know?

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

It's just a fact that our country as a whole aren't very patriotic, they are some who are but the majority aren't. To be honest I'm glad, I can't stand people who are over patriotic, it's over bearing and unnecessary and causing more trouble than it's worth.

I 100% agree. The sad thing about students is that there is a trend amongst them of liberalism. It's a rebellion thing. I've read this site since my GCSEs (a few years ago) and I've noticed the same thing. Any slightly right of centre views are quickly ambushed with authoritarian socialist/conformist posts.
    Will rep when i can.

What should we be proud of? More importantly, what have I to be proud of?

I live in a Republican stronghold in Northern Ireland, I don't think I would be very pre-disposed to patriotism.

I do like this country alot, but overt patriotism isnt a British characteristic.

we leave all the blinding(ly annoying) patriotism to the Americans.

I agree. Sure, our culture and society isn't perfect, but look at the rest of the world and you'll see it's better than nearly everywhere else. Some people have such a rose tinted view of foreign countries and cultures, it's unbelievable.

Patriotism is illogical, hence, i don't abide by the notion. I don't subscribe to 'self-hatred' though, perhaps contrition where contrition is due and the same for criticism, but i don't as a doctrine hate Britain. Similarly i wish people would stop throwing round liberal as a pejorative for everyone than doesn't conform to their belief-system, it's really quite tiring and the word is so ambigious it has little meaning, nevermind about the lacking of substance for such claims.

Indeed. Quiet pride with a stiff upper lip and a cup of tea in hand.

    Quite British. :top2:

If you want to be a flag-waving, gun-shooting, "I LOVE MY COUNTRY"-shouting patriot, somewhere like Texas is your place OP. (Though that isn't Britain lol).

I don't like patriotism. It irritates me in just about all its forms. But there's a disturbing trend of the opposite, people who - out of some misplaced sense of white guilt or slavery to the multikult or God knows what - wage war on anyone who shows a hint of pride in their culture, deriding them as evil and oppressive.

Personally, I can't really muster the energy to care about these things much, but it happens that the latter group is incredibly prevalent and is becoming more so with the rise of groups like the BNP - or maybe I'm just encountering more of them, and the more obnoxious elements of them, now that I'm at Uni. Yes, I get it, smash the Nazi fascist puppy-kickers, say no to freedom of speech and all that. Please stop handing me leaflets now. I am not coming to your marches.
