I'm currently working on a client login/management script for my A2 coursework and I've come across a small dilemma. The clients in the system will be able to have multiple projects (instead of just one), what's the best way to implement a way to allow them to choose the active project? Do you think it would make more sense to have some sort of dropdown on each page or something else?

If you're unsure on what I'm asking, please do let me know

Just have a normal login, then take them to a page where they can choose which project to edit, view, etc...

Depends how you want the system to work.
Will they see all projects or will they only see the projects they're allowed to ?
Once logged in can the change between projects ?

There are multiple ways you could do this but the best is likely to be dependant on how your web app is supposed to be used.
i.e. if they can change the project at any time put a menu of some sort (drop down box/ css based ...) somewhere on every page. If they can see all projects and have to choose at login put it on the login page with user/password boxes. If it's chosen at login but they can only see their projects have them choose straight after login.

The key to writing a good web app is knowing how you want it to work first and then make your design choices based on that. If possible document how it should work and why - That makes things much easier when you go back to it in a few years. That might be less important for a piece of coursework but it pays off to get into good habits at the start.

The system allows access for both staff and clients. It contains sections to allow users to change their account details, view updates, download files, view invoices etc. Thanks for your helpful suggestions, having a dropdown of some sort on login seems like a good idea but perhaps it would be much easier to have the same system for both staff and clients? Would having a dropdown on login for admin/staff also work? I'm not very good with the planning, lack of ability to be patient means I delve into things without thinking properly :eek3:
