Couple of excellent blogs here on the show trial of the century.

    http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/ed...not-far-right/

I'm amazed this crucially important show trial for what effectively amount to "illegal observations" has received so little coverage here... whilst as Ed West points out... a minor American celebrity only has to fart to receive blanket coverage here.

Not to mention the BBC's obsession with Twitter. Speaking of the BBC, I recall them labelling him as far right. Hmph.

    This is what gets me.

Wilders stands up for democracy, freedom of speech and gay rights.

Those who oppose him believe in Sharia Law, suppression of free speech, homophobia and clerical fascism.

    Yet Wilders is 'far right'.

    Riiiiiiight.

I take it you support him because he supports gay rights.

He supports a lot of things. Israel, free Speech, gay rights, the list goes on. He's not exactly Nick Griffin.

This outcome of this trial is crucially important for the future direction of Europe, and how it responds to clerical fascism. Will he prevail?! I hope so.....The poor guy lives with 24/7 police protection and moves from safe-house to safe-house, because he said somethings about Islam, WHICH ARE TRUE, and now fanatics want to kill him for it......Yet HE'S THE ONE ON TRIAL!!!

You sound surprised the BBC hasn't been covering it, must just not be a very important topic after all.....

Wilders is a fool, banning the Qu'ran .etc. Allthough some of his points are very reasonable...I have yet to hear him say anything particularly bad? This trial is disgusting, vile and should make everybody worry about Europe's future with regards civil liberties, free speech and so forth. Especially in the Netherlands where I believe the majority of it's cities youth are Muslim in Rotterdam, Amsterdam .etc.

He supports freedom and equality (Which gay rights are part of), and has the balls to condemn Islamic and far right bigotry.

Pretty sensible stuff, the Dutch establishment disgust me in their disregard for the values that took hundreds of years to form and which millions died for. The Netherlands was occupied by Nazis once, lest those lessons be forgotten. Principle Dutch values should not be forgotten in order to appease religon.

The interesting thing here is that the courts do not even deny that truth of some of the things he has said (higher crime rates amongst immigrants for example) they simply claim that his expressing them is illegal... trumped up charges if there ever where any!

Furthermore the Dutch public are amazed since his party is the largest growing one in Holland, and he has huge support. The whole thing is a farcical Kangaroo court based on trumped up charges. It is nothing more then the political elites of Holland against the majority opinion.

As Ed West says, how can a country that gave us Spinoza have become so retarded, so totalitarian, so directly against its own population and their wishes.

Typical right wing thing though, going with rent boys....

These guys are crazy, the only good thing about holland is its immigrant population, white people are boring.

Perhaps we have a modern day Charlemagne in Geert Wilders?

Someone who'll save Europe again from the forces of Islamofascism?

I think the Dutch courts are much smarter and in a better position to decide on how righteous the actions of Geert Wilders are compared to a group of kids on TSR or the two journalists who promote Wilders' work.

Well maybe... we are going to rise the rise of more Wilders figures and related figures as time goes on. There was murmurs in the press a few weeks ago about the imprisonment of Nick Griffin for example, you have the formation of the EDL (another "far-right" organisation)

I love this term "far-right"... in what way are the EDL "far-right"... you can almost guarntee that as a group of predominantly working class people, them and their families are almost certainly going to consider themselves as Labour through and through (until very recently at least)

This idea of "far-right" is simply to reinforce the idea in peoples head "right-wing bad - left wing good" repeat... "right-wing bad - left wing good". Not only that it is supposed to tarnish anything that the political elites want to as beyond the pale and beyond discussion, any movement they want to prescribe as beyond limits. So that any association with that movements ideas is tarnishes a persons character.

And so we are now in a situation where any ideas that deviate from the left-liberal consensus are almost automatically labelled "far-right" "right-wing" or "populist"

What fascinates me about Mr Wilders is his grasp of English...

Mr Wilda'z spek propa engliz comprd 2 chavtardz

^^ That actually took longer to write than I thought it would -_-

But in all seriousness, Wilders should not be on trial for his comments. This is what disgusts me about modern Europe and why I like America in this respect. In America, the police will walk along side protesting Nazi's to protect them. The freedom of speech and expression; in America, is a protected right.

That should be the situation over here. As long as your comments are not explicitly vile, you should be guaranteed freedom of speech and expression, even if you require police escort.
