Look at these common sayings, and state whether you truly agree with them, or they are just things people say for the hell of it:

    - Everything happens for a reason
    - Take nothing for granted
    - Birds of a feather flock together
    - A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
    - It is darkest before the dawn
    - Respect is earned, not given away
    - Trust is earned, not given away

    - Birds of a feather flock together dont even know what it means
it means like minded people hang out with with other like minded people

drunks hanging out with other drunks is an example
scientists are friends with other scientists and so forth

It means what you have is worth more or the same as what you could have.
As you would have to drop the bird in the hand to go after the 2 in the bush. And if you can not catch them then you have no birds.

these are basic sayings ya know

    - Everything happens for a reason

To believe in this you have to believe in faith. I don't believe in faith, so this does not really concern me.

    - Take nothing for granted

This is very similar to the above, claiming that each little event in your life has a purpose and will lead you to something greater. As far as politeness is concerned, I don't usually take things for granted, besides bad weather and poor hours at work.

    - Birds of a feather flock together

There is definitley truth to this phrase; we, as humans, will usually band together in groups based on similar beliefs and views.

    - A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

This has nothing at all to do with the human condition, in my opinion. And, hoestly, it really depends on the situation as to whether or not you should take this advice.

    - It is darkest before the dawn

Again, I don't believe this has anything to do with the human condition, other than the fact that we may use it as a coping mechanism. But, despite this, I do agree with this phrase.

    - Respect is earned, not given away

There's definitely some truth to this phrase.

    - Trust is earned, not given away

    Same as above.

I tend to go with the above.

A lot of what is purported to be common sense, while common, isn't sense.

    - Everything happens for a reason

Things happen because of an underlying mechanism, whether than mechanism is chance or not, it ultimately doesn't matter, something still caused it to happen so it happened for a reason!

    - Take nothing for granted

Some things will always be taken for granted, no matter how much we try not to take them for granted.

    - Birds of a feather flock together

I've seen birds on their own before

    - A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

I don't see how keeping a bird captive is going to be worth 2 birds in the wild

    - It is darkest before the dawn

    Yep, naturally!

    - Respect is earned, not given away

I respect most people, regardless of whether they earned it or not

    - Trust is earned, not given away

I trust many people who haven't "earned" it, so I disagree with this one

very much agree with this i live by it!

    - Take nothing for granted
again this is true. i think going through hard times makes you realise this more

    - Birds of a feather flock together
true up to a point. I think you need a few people outside your main group to for a balance and different viewpoint on life

    - A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
    no idea what this means

    - It is darkest before the dawn
again no clue what this means

    - Respect is earned, not given away
disagree, I think everyone should have a basic level of respect for everyone and I immediately show respect to authority like teachers/police etc

    - Trust is earned, not given away
    very true
