Pea size lump under chin . .

Hey,

So I went to my dentist a few weeks ago, had my usual dental check and he decided to feel under my chin! (I have no idea why ). He discovered a pea size lump to which I never knew existed. He started feeling it and etc asking me if it hurt and etc to which I replied no. So he said that he'd refer me to a specialist at the hospital to get it checked out.

Had a letter come through on Saturday for an appointment tomorrow - however I can not attend as it clashes with my volunteering. I rung up an hour ago to try and change the appointment, talking to the receptionist who said ''this is urgent''! . . . Due to commitments and unable to find a suitable appointment the receptionist said he'd ring the secretary and find me another appointment . . .

Now . .im just wondering - does anyone else have a pea sized lump under their chin? Does it hurt? have you been referred to a specialist by your dentist/gp? . . . .I have internet searched and a lot of people have said ''its just the lymph node'' . . .but im now quite curious as to what the heck it may be . . or if it really is only my lymph node that has come up due to univeristy stress/tension? . .

(Reposted as I think I posted it in the wrong forum? :dontknow:) . .

I'd suggest that you cancel on the volunteering (just for tomorrow) and see the doc... just in case.

Well I'm no medical expert but I once went to the doctor's for a lump under my chin and he said that it was just my lymph nodes (glands under your neck basically). I went to see the doctor after mine swelled up until it was really huge and started to hurt and he said that it was probably because I had an infection of sorts. Go see your doc to get it checked out like I did cause I was really worried about mine at the time but it turned out it wasn't serious.

I had this, it was just a swollen gland (lymph node) and i got put on anti-biotics for a week or so.

I would have thought it's just the lymph nodes, however dentists check for mouth-cancer now, that's why he was feeling under your chin.

It sounds like just your glands I wouldn't be too worried, but that's what he's having you checked up on, so don't miss this appointment, miss your volunteering. Doctors/dentists know best.

You can just get swollen glands from having a bad cold and all sorts.

dentists usually have the obligation to refer you to the hospital in case its something more serious. i suggest you go and see the doctor tomorrow just to make sure everything is ok.
