Prostitution: one adult pays another adult for sexual intercourse/contact. Illegal.

Pornography: one adult, or corporation, pays two (or more) adults to have sexual intercourse/contact and brings a video camera. Legal.

Why? In both, the individual is having sex for money.

Because the laws of this country are in many ways irrational and if observed from an objective viewpoint would be found rediculous?

Actually the exchange of money for sexual favours is legal in the U.K. "Kerb crawling" is not though (there is a difference).

    Prostitution isnt illegal...Brothels are however.
    * EDIT: socliciting in the street is illegal...which I think is what you meant by 'kerb-crawling' - but not prostitution itself.

Okay. Well, why are brothels illegal and pornography not? It's basically quite the same apart from the camera.

Could it be that pornography is a relatively new phenomenon compared to prostitution therefore it doesn't possess the same negative image that prostitution has gathered over the centuries.

because lots of big businesses make money from porn...if the government did try to ban it they would face one hell of a backlash.

Because one was around when Christianity had a chance to frown on it and the other is new....

    Prostitutes don't pay tax
Is that meant to be a joke?:p: I really can't tell.

Anyway, prostitutes should be paying tax. But because of the underground nature of the job, it's much easier to get away without paying tax.

Prostitution and pornography have both been around for thousands of years.

    1. Prostitution isn't illegal, curb crawling is.

    2. In porn you as the person enjoying it don't actually have sex, you just bash the bishop whilst watching others do it.

well with pornography it can be said that the two consenting individuals are being payed to be filmed in the act - the two parties having intercourse are not paying one of the other

with prostitution theres no two ways about it, one party is definitely being payed for sex
