I wish they had just re-released The Corrs incredible version of it. Screechy Leona Lewis to Andrea Corr. There is no competition.
Or just re-released the original with proceeds going to the same cause :coma:

There's a simple reason why they didn't just re-release the original.

In order to generate maximum exposure, you need to appeal to as many people as possible. More celebrities involved = more potential sales.

James Blunt was the highlight of this song.
what a depressing day for music..

i haven't even listened to it, but i can imagine what it'll be like..
i have too many bad things to say, but i'm going to keep them to myself because i know they won't achieve anything.

"Quick guys, I don't think some of the Haitians are all-the-way dead yet, let's bore them into an early grave with some charity-single-dross."

That's a damning indictment if I ever heard one.

I completely disagree with releasing charity singles. You butcher someone else's meaningful work, or create your own trite song, and then make it almost immune from criticism because it's for "a good cause", so it doesn't matter how good it is.

Whatever happened to just donating on your own? It's not as if anyone doesn't know about Haiti now, and I don't need a very eclectic group of popstars to spur me into action.

As for the song, Simon Cowell probably didn't care about the meaning of the original, it just has a catchy name and sounds a little bit like they want to help.
    So true

This is truly appalling. The should have got some better singers, say Imogen Heap for example. Whoever's singing at 3.55 is absolutely ****. Jesus Christ, Robbie William's face - look into my eyes, look into my eyes. And wtf does Moyles mean 'it doesn't matter whether you like it or not' - so if a troupe of monkeys recorded it with the same intentions, you'd be similarly obliged to buy it.

Could they have picked a more depressing song?

I'd argue that the singer is hurting the most, judging by the still that's used for the video. Looks like (s)he (I haven't clicked the link) just **** bricks.
