I received a letter from UCL today saying they want to interview me by phone. Of course, saying that I could go there myself if that was possible, but I'm afraid it's not, as I'm an international applicant.

I don't know what to expect from an interview by telephone. What kind of question might they ask? Related to my PS and reference, or also theoretical questions or Physics problems (by phone (?)). I'm also worried it might be very awkward. I'm not sure my voice is clear enough on the phone and what if there will be technical problems with the connection?

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of interviews ? Any piece of info would be much appreciated.

I would imagine it would be in the same style as a face to face interview to make it comparable and fair. It will probably cover all of the above, usually these things start out with more general questions about your application/PS/interest in the subject in an attempt to settle you before moving on to more academic questions or problems. Just try to speak clearly and I'm sure that you will be fine, it's really not that different to mumbling in an interview! Similarly with the connection, it's outside of your control so don't worry about it. If something happens then I'm sure they will be understanding about it.

ive had one. By coincidence it was UCL only. Its gonna be a pretty straightforward one, nothing to be afraid of. They're gonna ask you

    why ucl?
    why whatever you're course?
some questions related to your course/ recent developments etc etc
    any questions you might have

thats about it i guess....hope this helps.

i had one last year and it was ok but you dont get the time to think as you would in a normal interview so try and keep the conversation flowing while you think of the answer!
