I think its pretty effective up to 72 hours isn't it? After that you've not got a hope apparantly.

Just a couple of quick questions about the morning after pill.

How effective is it the second day after sex? Cos I know its only about 50% on the third. And you can get it in boots right? And also what does it actually do to your body?

Just wondering cos I dont know much about it and have never had to take it before now. Sorry if I'm being a foolio :frown:

It causes the lining of the uterus to become thicker, so the egg (fertilised) cannot embed itself in the lining, and so stops the development.
Its available in boots but you have to pay, at any walk in centre it's free.
No worries, the only way people learn is by asking.

It starts out at very high efficiency (near to 100%) right after sex and declines steadily until after 3 days when it's only 50% efficient.

What it does is cause the egg to be moved rapidly along the fallopian tubes and therefore arrive at the uterus before it's ready to implant, as well as altering the uterine lining and making it less receptive. It's not bad for you, but it's not good to take multiple times.

It's about that if you buy it from a pharmacy but free if you get it from your GP/sexual health clinic.

I got it for free. I've heard it can make you feel like crap for a few days but I was fine. I wouldn't recommend it on a regular basis but much better than getting pregnant!

It cost me £25 in a chemist, i felt fine afterwards too..

You don't always have to pay for it if you get it from a pharmacy. A lot pharmacies will provide it free under a PGD. I'd think that most Boots would do it if not all them?
Even if the first pharmacy you go to doesn't do it (or the pharmacist that's working hasn't done the course) then they'd be able to tell the other pharmacies in your area that do it for free.
