Barcap screen their interns. The system that the company they outsource to is truly, and i mean truly, awful. Poor form formatting, confusing form labels, upload facilities that dont work. Tis all a bit crap. Can honestly say, the 30 mins it took me to grind my way through that was one of the most frustrating 30 mins ever.

    Tell me about it

I have one question regarding these background checks. I haven't lied on my application form at all, but have a strange problem now.

The agency required me to list all my previous employers for last 5 years, which I have done without giving it a second thought. Some time later, they returned back to me to say that they can't verify one of my jobs because the company has been bought by another one, and all the old staff records have been binned.

Stupidly, I also do not have any documents to prove I've worked there - it was part-time and only for 3 months. So I suggested that I contact my manager, who is still working at this company, and ask him personally for a reference. The manager agreed to help me, but it was over 2 weeks ago now. The agency have not received anything from him yet, despite chasing (either his computer is broken or he's not in the office - stuff like that).

My question is: in the worst case, if this person will not give me a formal reference, is my offer likely to be withdrawn? The agency know that the work experience is valid, as they've spoken to the manager over the phone, but can only accept written references. Also, I haven't used this experience on my application form at all, as it was nearly 5 years ago and not relevant.

Sorry for such a long post, guys...but I am really worried

    Thanks!

You are worrying too much I think, but can understand your worries as every person who has yet to step into the company feels the same.

begemots, if you haven't used it on your application form then it won't matter. They just want to know what you've been doing for the past 5 years, i.e. you haven't been in prison, etc.

I would say that logically it makes sense. I guess what made me worried is that the agency have already spent two weeks of their time (i.e. money) to get this reference. So I thought it must be important...

    Thanks for your reply

After you have signed the contract. These contracts will always carry certain conditions, which if not met, will allow the company to withdraw the offer from you.
