As I work in elderly care and dementia care this is something I experience all the time. It makes me so angry how little the govt contributes to dementia research and care and can't understand why it is so underfunded. I can understand that most people know someone whos had cancer and so want to donate money to cancer charities but I would really encourage you to think about giving money to dementia research if you can because it really is a terrible disease.

Do you care about dementia? If not, why not?

As a physio student, I've done a lot of work with the elderly and trust me, I know how horrible it is. It's one of my greatest fears tbh. I think the government sort of sees it as something old people get, some normal part of being old, so they don't care so much. And perhaps because it doesn't cause direct pain as such, maybe they feel it's less urgent. Also cancer's more common and more easily preventable and affects all manner of people, so it's easier to get people to care about it.
I also think, you hear less about breakthroughs and new treatments and people who've had dementia getting better, so people don't donate because it may seem like a waste of time, but then of course that just leads to fewer breakthroughs, etc.!

I think a good documentary or a film could increase awareness and get more people donating.
It makes me so so sad everytime I come across someone with the illness and I feel so helpless, especially as a physio.

There are advantages to dimentia. Such as constantly meeting new people, and being able to hide your own easter eggs

Just watched a piece on the BBC about it! So hopefully they're helping to bring attention to it. :yy:
