    if you go through clearing can you change your course option completely? for example from nursing to sociology or history?

    Yes.
    Well obviously you need some Alevels, etc that go with it.
    So in your example I'd expect they'd ask for a history Alevel

    Clearing is intended to match students who do not hold an offer - or have declined the offers they did hold - to the available University places. This means that, providing you have the required entry qualifications and the University is willing to accept you, then you can start any course you like. If news reports are to be believed though, there may be less Clearing places in the 2010 cycle compared to some previous years.

    If you do this, you may want/be asked to submit a new personal statement relevant to the new course or discuss over the phone why you actually want to study it as they will only be able to view your old statement which will obviously relate to a different course.
