Hi, I've just been to get measured to have a dress made for my birthday. This is the first dress I've ever had made and now I'm really worried that it might look horrible on me. Has anyone ever had any bad experiences with dress making before? Or is there nothing to worry about because the dress can be altered and made to suit, even if I did hate it at first?

    Thanks!!

If you don't like it, they should alter it and make it suit you Otherwise I wouldn't be happy paying for it.

I'm sure some people here will have had bad experiences with custom-made dresses, but don't let that put you off! Just be honest and open with the dress-maker, and they'll be able to work with you to help you get a great looking dress.

The thing to make sure when you're having a dress made is to have regular fittings. No good dressmaker would just measure you, disappear and send a dress finished, you need to go along at least a couple of times so that they can make sure it fits you perfectly and you like it!

I love that quote (sig) though I altered it for my own purposes and am training my mum (lol yes training cos my sister keeps saying the real one so she gets confused), mine is 'what are we going to do tonight?' 'what we do every saturday night, try to win the lottery'.

OP - my sister didnt have one made but altered (a lot) by a seamstress and when she didnt like it they were happy to take it back and alter again and it was much better.
