I don't think they're worth anything at the moment in UCAS points. Unis just give offers based on so many credits (a pass is 60 I think). However, UCAS are looking to include them in their qualifications so it may change soon. (Or may have already, if anyone else has more up to date information?).

An access course is an accepted qualification for entry to a BA, so no, you won't have to do a foundation degree first. What I would recommend, however, is that you check the admissions pages of the unis you want to apply for. Often, they'll say how many credits they want, but more often it's just a pass. (In case you don't know, you pass an access course by accumulating 'credits' which are awarded for completed work. The more credits you have, the better.)

Do you know what you want to study at uni? For some degrees eg. teaching, there are conditions regarding the subject choice on the access course, but that can possibly be overcome with a good PS, good grades in relevant GCSEs etc.

You can either get a pass, merit or distinction.. But in my experience all universities ask for a pass. Unless its cambridge then they want to see perfection lol

Well, most universities ask for Merit or higher now. They don't like passes anymore
