    Hi folks

I'm planning to apply for MSc in Financial Economics (MFE) Programme and picking the colleges is a difficult process, especially when you hear that college life is a big part of your studies at Oxford. I'd be so greatful if u could recommend colleges to me. So far, I think Jesus and Merton seem to be most suitable for me.

    Some things I'd like-
    -cheap accomodation
-wide range of grants and scholarships
    -good academic record
-accommodation for entire duration of course
    -decent food
    -close to SBS
    - friendly

Oh and I am a little bit confused, if it is said that accommodation fee is 1600 per term, does it include vacations also? or just academic term and i will have to pay vacation accommodation in addition?

    Thanks in advance :*

Is this as a graduate or an undergraduate? It makes a big difference...

If you're a graduate then your only valid criterion will be the distance from your department. All the colleges are very nice, and at graduate level the college is not involved in your academic life anymore, so it's mainly a social landmark...

I can't remember if that applies to all postgrads in general, or just Linacre, but they let you have your room over hols as well. Or maybe other colleges provides grad accoms for over the hols, too, I guess the best would be to check the websites. Also, remember that your college may well be close to your department, but your accommodations can be pretty far away

The closest colleges (not accoms) to SBS, that I can think of, seem to be Nuffield, followed by St Peter's and Worcester (it looks absolutely gorgeous). Merton is actually really far away from the SBS , but if you consider Jesus, you may want to have a look at Lincoln, I know they were one of the colleges with the most grants and scholarship for PG students, and given that it's right next to Jesus, and about 10min walk from the SBS…

Regarding academic record, you'll graduate from Oxford, in the end, so it doesn't really matter if your college had the reputation of being hard workers or more laid back, especially as most of time it's not entirely true (and that outside Oxford and TSR, chances are no-one will have heard of your college anyway). And same applies about friendliness, they're all friendly, and yours will be more than the others because it's the one you picked, so don't worry about that, you'll definitely find friends, whichever college you go.
